Justin Martin
Justin Martin
Justin initially pricked the ears of the electronic music community in 2003 with his first record 'The Sad Piano' on Ben Watt's Buzzin' Fly label. Everyone in the electronic music food chain got involved, from the A list DJs like Derrick Carter and Pete Tong that were playing the track, to the international music press that were raving about it. It even translated to the German underground, with Poker Flat licensing it for Steve Bug's 'Bugnology' compilation. Like someone that goes bowling for the first time and gets five strikes and a turkey, Justin couldn't really have hoped for a better entrance.

Feeding off the energy of the San Francisco underground and mentored by fellow super producer Claude VonStroke, Justin was intrinsically involved with the development of dirtybird records, appearing on its first four releases. Justin was soon ready to take flight, releasing a string of solo EPs, which flaunted a very unique sound and garnered still more respect among fellow DJs and heavyweight's of the scene.

In 2010, such respect prompted an invitation for Justin to DJ mix Pete Tong's infamous "Essential Mix" series and also landed his felicitous placement on the front cover of DJ Magazine. Justin continued to roll out two further killer EPs on dirtybird, which were collaborations with his protégée Ardalan. "Mr Spock" earned recognition from major digital news outlet NPR as "surrounding sounds with tactful little details: the hissing white noise; that chubby, wet bass kick. This is music that doesn't need to be heard on the dance floor, though it does work awfully well there". What followed was "Lezgo", which knocked down the genre walls and pretty much remained a firm fixture in every DJ's box throughout 2011.

As well as his formidable arsenal of original productions, Justin is now equally known for his collaborations with his brother Christian as The Martin Brothers, producing such hip-hop influenced hits as 'Duckface', 'Stoopit', 'Dum'. Justin has also made his mark remixing such bona fide classics as Radiohead's 'Nude', Marshall Jefferson's 'Mushrooms', TG's 'Revox' and remixes for labels such as Fools Gold and Greco Roman, firmly establishing himself as the man to make big tracks even bigger.

2011 found Justin in the perfect position to work on his boldest project to date, his debut artist album and he couldn't be more enthusiastically happy with the results. "Ghettos & Gardens" long player will be released on dirtybird late spring 2012, with a string of stunning singles to support the release.

Demand for Justin's skills behind the decks has skyrocketed with his bookings schedule constantly crammed to capacity. With dates everywhere from Panorama Bar (Berlin), Fabric (London), Space (Ibiza) and a full album tour for summer and fall 2012, its no wonder Justin's diary reads like the dreams of a professional raver. Stateside he
continues to be a regular fixture at the Dirtybird events in San Francisco and beyond.

Music journalists typically describe Justin's sound as 'melodic and tough' with his music encapsulating both melody and emotional depth yet always with enough undeniable ass shaking properties to translate to the floor.

He remains as enthusiastic as ever to be involved in the scene. When recently questioned by Resident Advisor on what he'd be doing if he wasn't a DJ or dance music producer he just replied: "Wishing I was a DJ or music producer."

By all accounts, it's hard to tell him to wipe that smile off his face.
Ardalan
Ardalan
Range, appeal and a massive dose of nasty, gritty bass are the three chief weapons every Dirtybird artist has in his quiver, but Ardalan seems to be the peak culmination of all those assets in one wieldy point. This young archer has had the incomprehensible luck to fall into crew with his idols, be reared by their best and given some of their most guarded musical secrets, then hoisted to a platform to blare his prodigious beats from places where most creators can only dream of being.

Born in Tehran, Iran, Ardalan Noghre-Kar possesses a peculiar, fresh perspective on music genesis without even trying. His mixes, remixes and dubs are known for their sass, energy and wickedly wry samples that snap like a wet towel to the face, but his original tracks are where his efforts shine, like those released with Justin Martin-"Mr. Spock," a 2010 party anthem charted by Diplo and Jesse Rose, and "Lezgo," charted by Dog Blood (Skrillex and Boyz Noise)-and those soon-to-be-released on his own EP with Dirtybird. It's no wonder he's been given the nod by everyone from Papa Dirtybird himself (Claude Von Stroke) and A-Trak to those who are charting his remixes, like Maya Jane Coles, Audiojack, and Riva Starr, the last of whom he has an upcoming remix for to be released on Snatch.

The greatest strength in Ardy's music is his ability to whip out hits that work equally well from the dankest basements to the most opulent dancefloors; sounds that satisfy those with diverse tastes who can unite under his single agenda of having a good time.
Christian Martin
Christian Martin
While many have previously thought Christian Martin to be birthed from the bass within the stars, the OG Dirtybird co-founder was immersed in music from a very early age. Beginning his musical journey with classical piano at age five, then advancing to jazz theory and eventually becoming involved in bands throughout high school and his formative years.

In 1995, Christian discovered electronic music and sound system culture after attending an event by SoCal’s legendary Moontribe collective. Then after, the prophecy had unveiled itself. Fast forward 8 years in front of giant speakers from New York to London to Detroit, and Christian would act as the catalyst to what we now know as the Dirtybird BBQ. With the swipe of a credit card, he bought the original Dirtybird sound system.

Christian’s intense love for music vibrates through the speakers, floors, and walls at every event he plays. His sixth sense for what make the dancefloor tick, Jedi-like DJ mastery, and connection with the crowd are what make his sets unique and capable of healing. The proof is in the tears of Dirtybird CEO Claude VonStroke, who says that Christian Martin’s DJ set at the inaugural Dirtybird Campout was the only set that ever moved the boss bird to cry.

Thanks to his emotional and psychedelic take on house, techno, and bassy breaks, Christian has developed the reputation as an afterhours & sunrise specialist. He has closed Dirtybird showcases at such diverse locations as Shambhala, Holy Ship, WMC in Miami, and both Dirtybird Campouts.

You know when you’re on the dance floor during a Christian Martin set, and it’s this reason that Christian is a mainstay at world class events including Symbiosis, Do Lab at Coachella, Lucidity, Northern Nights, Secret Garden (UK), Fusion (Germany), Bass Coast (Canada), and his original electronic inspiration, Moontribe. The demand for his music extends internationally, touring in Australia, Germany, Mexico, Italy, & the UK.

2017 will prove to be Christian Martin’s biggest year yet as he launches a new record label & lifestyle brand – Trippy Ass Technologies. New music is on the horizon as Christian is set to release a slew of originals & collaborations with dance trailblazers Chris Lorenzo, Ardalan, Sinden & Mark Starr. What we can expect from Christian Martin can be foreseen as nothing short of mind melting.

“The reason that Christian always plays at the end… is because he’s the best!!” — Claude VonStroke, Dirtybird Campout 2016
